Firefly the new Whedon hit series, was a result of one-off episodes. Summer Glau's character, River Tam, was a complex character that Glau was able to handle with ease. Tam or Tam, as the character from the film was known, was subjected to government experiments that were designed to help her become a successful assassin. Tam had difficulty learning to regulate her emotions due to. Glau had the opportunity to showcase not just her acting skills, but her skills as a combat ace in Firefly. The training she received as an assassin allowed her an opportunity to make use of the full range of athletic skills she has. Summer Glau is a classically trained ballerina. She has also studied tango and Flamenco, but an injury to her foot put an end to her dancing career. Firefly had only one episode however it was an enormous success. Whedon returned to it many years later. While he was away, Summer Glau continued to get some quality work. Her television work included Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
